Welcome to the first day of 2021. This is the first of many posts that follow the journey of the Kenlock archive. I will be giving you an insight into what happens behind the scenes of this website and beyond! I thought it would be nice to take you on the ride with me, so you can understand what it is like managing an archive that has historic and community value. This is also a way for those of you who love Neil’s work to learn more about the images, all of which tell amazing stories. Some of my posts will be short and some will be long depending on what is happening as it can get really busy around here!
So what’s happening with the archive now? It is in an interesting space, there are loads of photos online shared by people interested in the narratives behind images and Neil’s work continues to tell untold stories about black history. Every year he receives requests for images, to do interviews and attend events but the other side of the work is to help to fill in the gaps in history, which without the images would be difficult. So this year we will continue to do the same thing, unravelling moments that we hope will ‘inspire’ (as Neil likes to say) and educate the lives of others in a positive way.
Until next time…
Emelia Kenlock, Creative Director
